Enjoy this unique opportunity to try your hand at the traditional art of sheepdog herding with this One Man and His Dog gift experience.
Just like the TV show of the same title, this One Man and His Dog experience provides the perfect opportunity to experience first-hand what it takes to herd a flock of rogue sheep with a trusted sheep dog in a stunning and picturesque location in West Yorkshire.
Following tea and coffee on arrival, your day will begin with a short talk on the dogs so you understand their natural instincts and then you'll be introduced to the dogs themselves. The morning will be spent learning the dogs' 'language' in a training ring, working 2 or 3 different dogs.
In the afternoon, you will be learning to work dogs loose in the field and finish moving a small flock of sheep around the field and completing a small course.
The sense of achievement you'll feel when you've finally got all the sheep in the pen will leave you feeling like a real shepherd.
Selected Monday to Friday dates, all year.
The total experience will last for approximately 4 to 5 hours.
There'll be a maximum of five others in your group.
You are welcome to bring along family and friends to watch you do this activity, however the centre will charge them a fee.
You must be at least 16 years old to participate in this activity.
There are no fitness requirements or previous experience needed but it is not suitable if allergic to dogs.
You'll get the best out of this experience if you're a genuine country lover.

What a fabulous enjoyable day. The trainer was great and the dogs gorgeous. The group were taken through several stages of training and practice leading to the final challenge. Very enjoyable day. Would definately recommend.

The sheepdog day was amazingly wonderful for me. She has a Border Collie rescue place there too, and she has won every title worth winning, she was impressive to me. barbara styles....I would love to live there and learn from her full time...if only. I was so taken by west yorkshire that I stayed the whole weekend, Steam train, Haworth, where the Brontes lived...and Saltaire, and amazing place.

What a fascinating insight into the world of working Border Collies. Our host was hugely knowledgeable and very entertaining. The collies we worked with were absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend this experience it was great fun and very enjoyable 😁

I used street view to direct me to location. No hot drink on arrival as electric was off for essential work nearby. Our trainer was welcoming, very informative used excellent personal examples and stories throughout the session. Great to be involved with several different dogs herding a few sheep in the paddock. Working farm and we had a short break whilst our trainer had to deal with a caller who'd come regarding some protected owls, breeding on the property, as a small group we made the most of the time to get to know each other a bit.

The whole day was fabulous. Vicky the person who runs the course was very nice knowledgeable and respectful of all the different age groups and genders taking part on the day . The surroundings were just right and I suppose the weather being on our side made all the difference. The course we took inside the class room and out in the field was very interesting and very enjoyable. The dogs themselves all had different characteristics and were very obedient and knew there stuff which although challenging was relevantly easy with dog’s experience and training that they have had . I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone that firstly loves dogs and secondly to anyone that is curious as to how to work the sheep with a dog . Thanks again to Vicky .
