What To Expect

Your day will vary depending on which of our animal experience days you choose. Whilst most of our animal encounters take place in a zoo or a wildlife park, you can also choose to enjoy a llama trek on a farm in Devonshire. Please keep in mind that while the majority of the gift experiences are for two people to enjoy, and the Meet the Llamas experience is suitable for four people.

Alpaca Walk for Three

Enjoy a leisurely stroll at Capel Manor Zoo and Gardens, in the company of their charming Alpacas. These delightful Alpacas have all been trained to walk on a halter, making them the perfect companions for an enjoyable and unique outing. There will be lots of opportunities to capture memorable moments, so be sure to take a camera.

Alpacas are highly intelligent creatures known for their gentleness and ease of handling. Each one has a distinct personality, contributing to their unique charm. Despite their shyness, they are curious and intelligent. As herd animals, they establish connections based on their roles within their herd.

In a small group of three, with two Alpacas, participants will interact, walk alongside, and even feed these joyful Alpacas. An experienced zookeeper will be present to offer valuable insights into their behaviours, enhancing the encounter with an educational aspect.

Capel Manor College Zoo and Gardens offer an array of activities. Following the enjoyable 30 minute Alpaca walk, you can explore the other animals on-site, walk around the holly maze and walled gardens, or simply unwind at the café.

The Six-Banded Armadillo at White Post Farm (also known as the Yellow Armadillo) originates from South America. During your 30-minute encounter, you'll spend time with them and have an opportunity to help prepare their food, which typically includes insects such as termites, beetles, grubs, cockroaches and scorpions, plus you may even have the opportunity to meet a baby Armadillo.

Meet the Lemurs for Two

Come and meet a playful troop of lemurs, with bright orange eyes and a long tail you'll have a job to miss these exceptional creatures. You’ll be able to enter the enclosure and give them their feed whilst learning about their unique characters from the specialist keeper.

Depending on your chosen location you will meet either ring-tailed, red ruffed or black and white ruffed lemurs.

Bring your camera, this is a fantastic chance to get a great snap of these amazing creatures who are always willing to strike a pose!

Once you arrive you will head straight for the lemur enclosure. After a health and safety briefing, you will need to wash your hands before entering the enclosure. The lemur specialist will be on hand to give you insightful information and oversee you as you interact with the animals. You will be given a small tub of insects, eggs, fruit, veg or cat biscuits to feed the lemurs with.

Llamas are unique animals, they're easy to train, they can be very sociable and they are protective of themselves and their herd. On this experience you will get to learn their fascinating history, how to handle them and their behaviour towards humans and other llamas. Llamas are friendly, gentle and intelligent animals and make ideal walking companions. If you love your animals, the llama is definitely one you should meet.

This experience is based on East Devon’s spectacular Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural world heritage site and an area of outstanding natural beauty. Located just outside the Regency seaside town of Sidmouth, the venue is ideally situated to take full advantage of the stunning scenery on this beautiful stretch of the East Devon Coastline.

Your experience will start with a meet and greet with the llamas. You will receive a demonstration about llamas, their characteristics and handling and grooming techniques. Next you will groom the llamas themselves with brushes and if the weather is nice you can then have some time in the paddock with the llamas. If the weather is cold or raining you can do some indoor clicker training with the llamas.

Each meerkat has its own unique personality, making the experience even more enjoyable. Participants are encouraged to keep a camera to hand to capture this incredible encounter. Some locations may also offer the opportunity to explore the rest of the zoo or park at their leisure, enhancing the overall experience.

Upon arrival at the chosen location, participants head directly to the meerkat enclosure. With this 90 minute experience, you will have the opportunity to handle, fly and work with a variety of species of owls such as the iconic Barn Owl, the impressive Verreaux's Eagle Owl and the Great Grey Owl and will learn about a small handful of the 200+ species of owls from around the globe.

On arrival you and your guest will be greeted by a friendly staff member and given an introductory briefing.

Under the expert supervision of your guide, you will learn grooming techniques with various brushes and how to check for stray objects in the horse's hooves. Weather depending, you may even be able to give the horse a refreshing bath. Learn how the horse’s daily stretches prepare them to work, whilst you feed them one of their favourite treats - carrots. Further to grooming, you'll be able to guide your horse through an obstacle course and possibly braid their mane and tail.

As you hold and interact with a variety of species, typically Corn and Royal Python snakes, Rankins Dragon, and Gecko lizards, along with tortoises.

Both Corn Snakes and Royal Pythons are non-venomous species. Corn snakes originate from East America, while Royal Pythons come from the rainforests of Western Africa. Royal Pythons generally have a longer lifespan, while Corn snakes are smaller in size.

Rankins Dragon lizards, also known as Australian Agamid lizards, are small, bearded dragon lizards and can live up to 15 years, growing up to 12 inches. Geckos, recognized for their nocturnal nature, add to the diverse range of species you will encounter during your experience.
