Caffe Concerto, London

Matt from Accounts, May 2023

What did your experience entail?
I took my Mum to Café Concerto in Green Park, London for a Deluxe Afternoon Tea. Luckily, after the grey skies and rain of the previous few weeks, we were treated to a sunny blue-sky day as we headed into the city.
On arrival, we were greeted by the friendly staff and shown to our table. The bifold windows at the front of the restaurant were fully open and this gave a very cosmopolitan feel to the setting. My mum also commented on the grand chandeliers, which created an elegant ambiance as waited for our tea to be served.

Our Afternoon Tea was served, with 3 tiers of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and a tantalizing selection of sweet treats to top it all off. The sandwich fillings included cucumber and cream cheese & smoked salmon with capers and lemon. Our favourite sandwich though was the chicken with sundried tomato. We then moved onto the scones, which were still warm and beautifully fluffy. Mum went Jam then cream, but for me it has to be cream then jam!
Leaving the best till last, we had one final treat of velvety chocolate pastries, macaroons and delicate fruit tarts which were all bursting with fantastic flavours!

After our tea, we walked across Green Park to Buckingham Place to see if the King was home! It was great to see all the union flags still lining the Mall, which topped off our very Royal day out in the capital!

Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The food was amazing, the staff were very attentive, and the Great British weather even played its part in giving us a day to remember.

Due to COVID we found ourselves the only customers within the venue which was a blessing in disguise! Staff amazing we were informed it was a new menu devised by the head chef and we were bit disappointed! In fact there was too much food and we had a full sized bottle of Prosecco.

Given the fact that I know how much this experience costs, I would say that it felt somewhat underwhelming. The food was good, but not plentiful and the pimms, detailed in the title of the experience, was nought more than a shot glass full of vaguely alcoholic strawberry juice accompanying the rest of the food. The staff were pleasant initially but we were completely ignored after we’d been given our food and drinks. The setting in the hotel restaurant was agreeable enough. Overall, not a bad experience at all, but nothing i would write home about.

      Grace - Supplier Co-Ordinator

Thank you for your experience review. I'm sorry to hear that you found your experience to be underwhelming. In the experience information it explains that you will receive; a selection of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, fresh fruit tartlets, pastries and a choice between a selection of fine teas or freshly ground coffee and a glass of Pimm's with strawberries. I can see from the image, that all of the food outlined in the information was received. In regards to the size of the glass of Pimm's, I'm very sorry that this was so small and I will pass this comment over to the venue that you attended. Thank you for your review.

This experience was given to me by a very dear friend for my 70th birthday. My husband and I were really looking forward to the outing and the Household Cavalry museum did not disappoint. It was so interesting and the staff were just lovely. However when we got to the hotel for tea I began to feel less than special! We were directed to the appropriate area and then told to wait so we sat down near the bar and waited for at least a quarter of an hour. Eventually a young man came over to us and we explained why we were there and he said he couldn't deal with us so he would tell the appropriate person. We continued to wait then my husband went and asked at the bar. Eventually the appropriate person came and said follow me, sorry I forgot about you. (I'm really not feeling very special at this point!) When we had the tea we asked for coffee. It arrived in very large cups only half full and we were offered no top-ups. I have never had an afternoon tea where the tea and coffee cups were not replenished.

At our second attempt (Museum closed first time for a rehearsal) came away from Museum feeling really proud of our history. Had the privilege of a parade display as it was the opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster so Household Cavalry were on display on the parade and as they were changing we were able to view the horses and cavalry men returning into the stables from inside the museum. So disciplined and so caring for their mounts. Brilliant view of regimental routines. History on display at Museum really interesting and an eye-opener about the bravery and courage shown over the times covered. Will return to read more! Visit topped off with visit to Field of Remembrance (very moving) and cream tea in Covent Garden, ending the day with visit to see the Tower of London torch display - Fantastic and memorable day, thank you.

This was a gift, but was not value for money as the Household Cavalry Museum tickets are £8 admission and you could just walk in off the street, no need to book. The Afternoon tea was overpriced, had got the time wrong after confirming the day before visiting, and we could have saved ourselves £10 each by booking independently. I found it very difficult to book as they wanted three dates, and I was trying to coincide my visit with a friend who also had this gift. Complicated and long winded.
