Hop on board the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway which runs through beautiful rural countryside between Duffield, on the outskirts of Derby, to the quaint Peak District town of Wirksworth. There are stops at the idylic countryside halts of Shottle and Idridgehay en route, perfect for those wishing to stretch their legs along the Ecclesbourne Way walking trail.
Relax at Wirksworth in the Station Café or pop into one of our gift shops. On selected days of the year you can also enjoy the new 7 ¼ inch Miniature Railway. Our new station building at Wirksworth (under construction March 2019) will feature a museum and new bookshop as well as allowing construction of a new model railway.
They use a variety of steam locomotives and heritage diesel trains for all to enjoy. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway has a reputation for a friendly welcome to all and very much hope you will enjoy your visit and to this lovely corner of Derbyshire.
Available on selected dates., from 19th April to 8th September, excludes Special Event Days.
The experience lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes, however tickets are valid for use all day.
This experience is for two people, there will be others there on the day.
There is no minimum age, under 16's must be accompanied by an adult.

We had a lovely day out on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and managed to spend a couple of hours in Wirksworth which is a lovely town. The staff and volunteers on the railways were super friendly and there is loads to do and see at Wirksworth Station including a VERY comprehensive railway book shop.

I had a voucher bought me for Christmas, to ride on a steam train. Unfortunately when I booked in,I was told that it was a deisel not a steam. I was then told I could use it at another time. I decided to go on that day, has I'd booked a meal after. Although disappointed I did enjoy the ride. I was a bit disappointed on the cleanliness of the train which wasn't that great. There's still a lot of work being done, but I suppose being that it's volunteers that work there, I didn't expect it being too great. Other than that I did enjoy the day.

Due to the heritage nature of the steam train, there are occasions where it has to be replaced at short notice with a diesel engine.
