Centrally located in London’s buzzy Soho is the Five-star Sanctum Soho Hotel, an urban hideaway in the heart of the city. What did your experience entail?
An afternoon tea with a Japanese theme in a cool and funky West End boutique hotel. The hotel has a different style and edge to it with cool interiors and staff with more pony-tails than usual! The Japanese Afternoon Tea is held in the restaurant of the hotel and starts with a long glass of cold fizz in crystal flutes, followed by your first course of beautiful Japanese dishes. Do not worry if you cannot use chopsticks, there are plenty of forks...
After the first course an elaborate and unique “cake stand” is brought to the table with sweet treats which will tickle tastebuds as well as being visually stunning. But, for the traditionalists there is a fab fruit scone and clotted cream/strawberry jam just to remind us that this is afternoon tea; and, of course a choice of 6 different teas in a personal pot each.
This is an Insta-must for those who love to post. It will have your friends drooling with envy and even better, the whole thing tastes fantastic and we left thoroughly happy and chilled.

Having had a number of different Afternoon Teas over the years, this Japanese version is definitely my favourite. The menu is eclectic, mixing some ubiquitous afternoon tea elements with modern Japanese dishes – with or without chopsticks. There is more than enough for two, and we had not eaten all day! Staff are all friendly and keen to ensure that you are enjoying the experience, without being “in your face.”

    Due to COVID we found ourselves the only customers within the venue which was a blessing in disguise! Staff amazing we were informed it was a new menu devised by the head chef and we were bit disappointed! In fact there was too much food and we had a full sized bottle of Prosecco.

    This hotel was poorly managed. We were sent to the wrong part of the hotel due to a function being on in the restaurant. After waiting for someone to serve us (no one was around) someone finally appeared and directed us down to the correct place (where we had started). The receptionist who gave us the wrong information did not even apologise. Waiting team were pleasant and personable but lacked skill and didn’t try to upsell. We heard one of the chefs swearing to a waiter and so we loved tables. The head chef was constantly walking back and forth through the restaurant talking about orders. Luggage bags were being walked through the restaurant constantly. There was a completely lack of awareness and no one seemed to be managing/over looking the whole operation. The food was nice but nothing exceptional. On the whole very poor experience which was a real shame considering this was a gift for an important birthday. I would never go back to this hotel/restaurant and I wouldn’t likely book purchase a voucher from this company.

    We had an extremely amazing Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea. Unlike your usual English Afternoon Tea this was uniquely the Japanese equivalent. With very tasty and delicious dishes that tickled your taste buds and enchanted your nasal passages. The event topped off with a superb Prosecco. The staff were friendly, warm, welcoming and thoroughly professional. We will go again.

    We received our voucher as a gift from a family member at Christmas. When we visited the Sanctum Soho Hotel for our experience we started with the savoury options of: *Tuna Tataki with a Ponzu Dressing and a Fennel & Seaweed Salad. * Steamed & Pan Fried Vegetable Gyoza. * Chicken Kara-age Skewer with a Lemon Kewpie Mayonnaise. * Soft Shell Crab Slider with Wasabi. Then for the sweet options we had: * Chocolate Mochi * Whiskey, Chocolate & Tofu Mousse with Honeycomb. * Macha & Raspberry Panna Cotta * Warm Raisin Scones with Yuzu Curd, Strawberry Jam & Clotted Cream. Served with a glass of Prosecco each. Everything was delicious but I think my favourite dish had to be the Soft Shell Crab Sliders. The only thing you'll need to be aware of is the service charge is still applied, as well as any other products you buy there. The service was brilliant though so we did not mind paying it.

    Would have been 5* but for the server insisting I was pregnant when I was not! I told her three times I wasn’t but she kept talking about not giving me raw food. She had a booking on her system where one member of the party was pregnant and assumed that was our reservation just because she couldn’t find ours.
