Seemed like a nice place on arrival and checked in easily. The room was basic with a road outside the window so we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. The TV system was playing up but eventually settled down and room reasonably furnished. The bathroom however had a very narrow bath and no conveniently placed handrails to help get in and out of the bath. As I am overweight it was quite an effort to get out again after a bath. Also after around an hour in the bath the stem extractor fan cut out and a fire alarm went off in the room which was short-lived. The fan restarted again and the alarm triggered again and then stopped and the fan would not then turn off all through the night making a noise and disturbing our sleep. The meal provided was pleasant but we were not advised that we had a drink included until after I had purchased two drinks from the bar which were very expensive indeed at over £8 for a glass of white wine and just under £5 for a basic pint of cider ! Had I been told beforehand that the glass of wine was going to cost that much I would have ordered something else. There was no real cosy area to relax in a lounge as would have been expected from a house of the size and we therefore stayed in our room for the evening. We got the impression that the hotel really catered for golfers with a stay and was not really geared up for non golfing visitors.

So I'm giving this team a 5* rating even though so far wow have not stayed with them as we had to cancel at the very, very last minute. They could quite legitimately have told us we had lost the night's stay as it was too late. They did not. They have allowed us to re-book at no cost to us, which I think is a fantastic gesture hence giving them 5* regardless of what our future stay will actually be like!

Quaint village, older worlde house, part of the estate. Rooms large, we'll furnished and clean. Andy our host was excellent, nothing too much trouble and produced a first class breakfast. An earlier check time would have been appreciated.
