Tandem Cycle Experience for Two

Enjoy a unique cycling experience in the great outdoors along picturesque routes.

Riding a normal, single-rider bicycle is a very rewarding experience, but a tandem bicycle adds a whole new aspect. Compared to a conventional bicycle, a tandem has double the pedalling power and has about the same wind resistance as a conventional bicycle.

Whether you choose to take the lead, pedal at the front and be the 'captain' or are happy to be the 'navigator' and just follow along, tandem cycling is a truly rewarding experience and will be a day to remember.

When you arrive you will be provided with helmets, a bicycle lock, a repair kit and a route guide to get you ready for your tandem cycle.

Southwater Cycles is situated in beautiful countryside on the Drungewick lane cycle route which joins the Wey and Arun canal path and is also close to the Downslink Cycle route from Guildford, Surrey to Shoreham, West Sussex.

• When can I go?

  This experience is available on selected weekday and weekend dates, excluding Christmas Day and bank holiday weekends.

• How long will my experience last?

  You will have the Tandem Bicycle for four hours.

• How many people is this experience for?

  This experience is for two people.

• Can I bring family and friends?

  Unfortunately, this experience is not suitable for spectators.

• What else do I need to know?

  • Under 18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

  • You must be reasonably fit and able to ride the tandem. Please wear comfortable cycling clothing.

  • There are no qualification requirements. You will need to provide photo ID on the day.

  This experiance was great fun, the bikes is made of aluminium so it really is fast. The area is lovely with some great pubs and scenery The experiance could have been even better, the farm where you pick up the bike is quite easy to find, however the lady who checks your booking was as much use as a chocolate tea pot, giving as an awful photo copied map that was A) Hard to read as the print was to light B) Didn't show any detailed routes to follow, we asked for more detail but she didn't want to help us. The guy who allocated us the bike was much better and more helpful, a real enthusiast. Please get the farm to give out detailed maps and routes of the area rather than a poorly photocopied map

  Had a fab time found the route a bit difficult to coordinate at first so we went about an hour out of our way. The main road was too dodgy on a tandem for someone less experienced. Have used one before but much prefer to be on a smooth track

  This voucher was a Christmas present given to me by my son's girlfriend, and been dying to try out tandem cycling for a long time. Took a bit of getting use to since I'm left foot strong and my friend is right foot strong. She had to adjust to accommodate me since I was leading, and once mastered we had a terrific time. I am normally use to cycling solo on mountain and road bike, but I have to say that tandem is very enjoyable since you go the same pace as your partner, as well as able to carry on a decent conversation in the process. Tandem is also probably better on paved areas versus muddy pathways though. We did struggle through the bridle ways due to heavy mud and uneven tracks.

  This was given to me as a present and was very much looking forward to it. Great bike, friendly and efficient service. The day was fun though the map and directions for the large off road loop were not very good and we got hopelessly lost on several occasions resorting to Google maps and guesswork to help.

  This was a Christmas present and we decided to go on a ride to see the Autumn leaves. When we arrived at the cycle place our Tandem was ready for us fixed at the perfect height. We spent 5 hours cycling along a canal and the Downs link and had a really chilled and relaxing time. We were a bit sore for the next week but it was worth the pain!

  Myself and husband went on a beautiful day. It’s set in an amazing location. It was pretty funny trying to get the hang of the bike. Once we did we enjoyed every minute. The owners were lovely and let us have our picnic at the campsite afterwards

  Our tandem was ready and waiting for us when we arrived and the staff at Southwater Cycles got us off on our way without delay. Having ridden a tandem once before we started with a bit of experience. We set off using an off road route as much as was possible. We rode along the Wey and Arun Canal, without ending up in the water and had a lot of laughs along the way. The bike was great, in top condition and changing the seat height, so that we could swop seats, was easy. We were provided with map holder, puncture repair kit and bike lock in an easy to carry backpack. Sadly the first pub we stopped at was temporarily closed so we ended up going on to the Milk Churn Coffee Shop which provided a great menu and welcome rest. Checking our bike back in was as smooth as taking it out. Thanks for a great day out, thank you.
