Forget dainty cakes and cucumber sandwiches – this is afternoon tea with a serious cheddar upgrade. Climb aboard London’s legendary Cheese Barge and settle in for an indulgent tasting that puts British artisan cheesemakers firmly in the spotlight.
You and your cheese-loving partner in crime will tuck into six glorious cheeses, each perfectly paired with clever little condiments (think poached pears, chilli jam or tangy pickles). Add crackers, curried cheese curds, and two oozy grilled cheese sandwiches to the mix, and you’ll see why this floating fromage palace is a local legend.
And because no cheese feast is complete without fizz, you’ll raise a glass of Prosecco (or a non-alcoholic alternative if you’re feeling saintly) as the ducks glide past on Regent’s Canal. It’s quirky, it’s indulgent, and it’s the ultimate gift for anyone who believes life’s better with brie.
Monday to Friday 12pm-4pm and Sunday 12pm-7:15pm, throughout the year, subject to availability.
This experience is for two people to enjoy, there will be others there on the day.

We headed to The Cheese Barge in Paddington for an afternoon tea with a difference - lots of cheese! If you are a cheese lover, this is a good one.
The barge itself is lovely, and it is a different setting to enjoy some food. The Paddington Basin area is nice too, so have a walk around before or after your experience.
We started with the Quicke’s curried curd while enjoying our glass of prosecco (deep fried cheddar cheese curds, tossed in spices, and drizzled with chili honey!) The curds were the most surprising and different item that we had, and they went in flash!
We were then asked to select a grilled cheese sandwich filling each, plus six cheeses from a menu of nine. Having selected the Keens’ Cheddar and Cropwell Bishop toasties we then simply excluded two cheeses that we had previously heard of and one that was going to be in one of the grilled cheese sandwiches.
First came the grilled cheese sandwiches and they were seriously good, filled with gooey melting cheese – too hot to handle! By this point we were starting to realise just how filling an afternoon of cheese can be.
The cheese board then arrived with each cheese paired with something to compliment the cheese. For example, the Driftwood Goats Cheese came with honeycomb and rosemary sugar, and the Cornish Gouda with Clotted Cream Fudge.
We were told the order in which to taste the cheeses to get the most out of the flavours developing. We did this initially but then went it for more of what we liked the most.
We really enjoyed this experience from being in the Paddington area and on a barge to the friendly staff and of course the different cheeses. The food was brilliant.

Tasting cheeses that we had not had before and understanding why they were paired with what seemed like some unusual accompaniments, but it all worked.
Go hungry! There is a lot more food than you might expect.

English-Cheese-tastic, but seriously great cheese, wine in a unique location on a barge! Paddington basin, a quirky location right next to one of the biggest English train stations. Great meeting place post UKlockdowns. Staff are super chilled & charming, top notch.
