30 Minute Diesel Locomotive Drive

Here’s your unique opportunity to get behind the controls of a powerful diesel locomotive and enjoy a shared driving experience along a scenic railway in either Chinnor or Blaenavon.

After a warm welcome from the and a safety briefing, you’ll step onto the footplate, hear the signal clang, and then you’re off – covering 4 miles driving which will take approximately 30 minutes.

At the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway, you will experience the power of a Type 4 Class 47. Delivering around 2,500 bhp, these impressive locomotives have been hauling trains across Britain since the 1960s. You’ll enjoy time in the cab and sharing driving duties along the scenic route between Chinnor and Princes Risborough.

Alternatively, at the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, you’ll drive a Type 3 Class 37. Famous for its unmistakable sound and rugged reliability, this much-loved locomotive offers a truly hands-on experience through the striking South Wales landscape, guided by an expert crew.

It’s fun, it’s full-throttle, and it’s unlike anything else.

  The experience will last approximately 30 minutes, expect to be at the venue for up to 2 hours.

  • The minimum age for this experience is 16.

  • Boarding is possible from the platform, but participants should be able to climb into the cab from track level. Wheelchairs and walking aids cannot be taken into the cab.
