Visitors to the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace will see the White Drawing Room, perhaps the most beautiful of all the State Rooms with its spectacular crystal chandelier, the Music Room, where guests are presented on the occasion of a State Visit, and the Throne Room, which was the setting for the formal photographs following the wedding of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales.
After your visit you can take a stroll along The Mall to The Royal Horseguards Hotel to enjoy a relaxing two course dining experience.
An impressive historic building in London, The Royal Horseguards Hotel is situated on the River Thames at the Embankment. It encompasses two iconic buildings: The National Liberal Club which has played host to historical icons including Churchill, Gladstone and Lloyd-George; and the club’s magnificent apartments which were previously the home of the first chief of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service.
Inside you’ll find Victorian grandeur combined with elegant, first-class contemporary comfort which sets The Royal Horseguards Hotel apart as one of the finest hotels near Westminster.

What did you get up to?
The Buckingham Palace Summer Visit with Sparkling Afternoon Tea was an enlightening visit to a iconic British landmark of history, followed by the cultured afternoon tea.
There is a wonderful private art collection exhibited in the Ballroom. The paintings have been commissioned by King Charles from each of his trips to other countries and have been selected by him to show the best of his personal memories. Many are of him and Queen Camilla. These ‘Royal Selfies’ are not to be missed.
The art exhibition continues with the Royal Collection which is one of the world’s best and includes many Dutch and Italian masters and many of the rooms contain fine furniture and statues. The way out takes you through the extensive (and relatively peaceful for central London) Royal Garden.
Finally, afternoon tea at The Royal Horseguards Hotel was a pleasant and relaxing venue to start off with a couple of delicious cocktails in the bar as we waited to be seated at our table. I was impressed with the sparkling wine, Chapel Down Sparkling Wine, as well as the savoury finger sandwiches and scrumptious scones.
1. Arrive at least an hour before the tour and bring your voucher.
2. You will need to head to the ticket office to exchange your voucher for tickets. This will be at Gate A.
3. Headphones for a personal tour should be picked up at reception and, although providing an almost too brief explanation of each room, are informative enough to at least get an idea of the state rooms.

I loved the idea of being in the palace but was a bit disappointed we couldn’t see more ! Also where were the pictures of our late queen? Also it was very crowded so many guests in there at once You’re asking for photos but we weren’t allowed to take any !

My friend and i had a day out in London and a trip to Buckingham Palace and then afternoon tea. It was a great day out, really interesting trip around the Palace and learnt a lot. The gardens were beautiful, and the staff were super helpful and friendly. Then afternoon Tea at the Horse guards Hotel this was really lovely good food a glass of Fizz and really enjoyed this afternoon, with good food and good company. would recommend for a day out.

1) When booked, there was no mention of having to hold backpacks. Mine was heavy, and was difficult to carry on by hand, but staff refused to allow me to carry it on my back. This should have been better communicated. 2) When booked, there was no mention of being unable to take photos. This should have been better communicated. 3) All but 2 rooms were so similar, and I didn’t feel like this was worth visiting.

It is tricky to use this gift as it only opens for a short time in the summer. We had to pay extra to extend the voucher's validity, as it expired before the palace reopened this summer. However, it was a great visit - the art treasures on show were amazing, and you could imagine our late Queen walking through the rooms (no photos allowed, though) It was also nice to walk through the gardens to the exit. The restaurant was some distance away, so factor this in when scheduling lunch.

The State Rooms were fabulous and it was amazing to be able to stand where so many famous people have stood for a photo call. All the guides and staff were very helpful. A bit disappointed that we couldn’t take photos in the building, but that didn’t detract from the day. Our evening meal at Horseguards was superb and was the perfect end to a perfect day.
