Experience Day Review
Step back into the bygone era of rail travel as soon as you set foot in the ticket office at The Nene Valley Railway. A hop-on-hop-off ticket allows you to explore areas such as the Ferry Meadows Country Park. All the staff are volunteers and obviously love what they do and are therefore very friendly and informative.
If you choose to take the afternoon tea on the same day, a fifteen-minute walk from Peterborough station takes you to The Bull Hotel, a 17th Century, Grade II listed building. The tea is a good stop off on your train journey, but I wouldn’t choose it for a special occasion. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and is highly recommended for a day out.”

Nice setting, but when the afternoon tea arrived was very disappointed. Not a very good selection of cakes, sandwiches were not to my taste, no cream with the scones. Would not recommend this location for afternoon tea, not value for money.

We enjoyed our afternoon tea, there was plenty of food and once at the venue, staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately initial communication with the venue was difficult, calls were unanswered or not returned and there were problems getting through by email. It was not clear on the website that voucher had to be emailed so time was wasted trying to phone and chase the missing email. It was also not clear to me on either the Activity superstore or venue website that a £10 surcharge was payable. This wasn’t a problem but i would have liked to have known and understood this.

Firstly, we were directed to main doors. All uphill from the car park. I'm wheelchair bound so my Daughter who was accompanying me struggles with a spinal problem, but.to get to the main doors & a member of staff came out to tell us it wasn't. Accessible for wheelchairs & to go back to the car park & enter through back. doors Apparently she had complained many times previously about the poorly shown entrance signs. Staff were very friendly & polite. They brought our hot drinks both coffees. These were just instant coffee drinks. Cheap & watery. No filtered coffee as one would expect, we then had to wait a very long time for Tea. This was very disappointing. The bread was dry & 4 tiny bits of shop bought cake. Nothing was freshly made so very disappointing. I have had several afternoon teas all excellent quality & value for money. This one has to be the worst tea i have had. For the cost of the package & also as it was a birthday gift, I kept putting back until I was well enough to enjoy my afternoon out, I was very disappointed. I will not be recommending that venue to my family & friends.

This was a Christmas gift so chose somewhere fairly local. Venue was ok, had our AfternoonTea in what looked like a dining room for guests, no view and sat amongst guests in robes that had been using the Spa. The food was average and presentation was nothing special. No offer of top up on the tea. Felt it could have been a better experience, unsure if this would have been different had we been a paying customer. Service was quick and staff friendly.
