  We are so happy to have booked the hotel through Activity Superstore. This hotel more than exceeded what we were expecting. Great friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us. A lovely room with a fantastic bath and seperate shower. Lovely food and superb breakfast. This hotel is situated on a main road not far from Scarborough and Pickering so its easy to jump on a bus right outside the hotel for a day out. I strongly recommend this hotel . We will return.

  I was bought this as a gift - turned out to be very poor. The hotel was not welcoming, not interested at all, had 'no twin rooms' available and put us in the smallest "double" I have ever seen, with very little heating - and when asked for assistance with this was told "it wasn't timed to come on yet". From the number of tables laid at breakfast is was obviously no where near full - and we had been put in substandard accommodation (that needed a good clean and had a wasps nest just out the window) for no good reason. Needless to say I will not be returning, even though I would like to explore the region more. Have been warning friends/colleagues off!

  This was a Christmas present last year and as we had lost our Thomas Cook holiday recently, Decided to make this start of couple days away. Excellent helpful friendly staff, lovely room, good facilities and delicious food. What more could you want??

  We stayed with yourselves on Saturday 5th October and I’d like to leave a review via email before going any further. We arrived at about half 6 Saturday evening a was greeted by a very abrupt gentleman who shoved our key over the bar and said room 3 follow the signs up the stairs. As when went to walk away and find our room he again very abruptly said you’ve have got a reservation for dinner(which we weren’t worried about) however we said if you have space we’d love to eat if not we will head out and find somewhere. After looking at the book he offered us a table, which we took up, however had to eat straight away which we did to accommodated we booking later on and not put you out however we which we had gone out as felt like we were ‘in the way’ although the food was lovely we didn't feel like we could sit and enjoy as we were told the table was needed so went back to our unlocked room, hideous locks. The room ... interesting... the shower was filthy inside, toilet defiantly hadn’t been cleaned for a long while. Under the bed, a mouse trap and a mattress that had springs sticking through and caused an uncomfortable nights sleep. About 9.30pm we were shocked to here extremely loud music which continued for a while. Had we of felt more welcome at the bar perhaps we could of enjoyed it downstairs in the bar. Breakfast - we had scrambled egg and salmon which was ok. Although cheaper that a full cooked breakfast we are very shocked to hear we required to pay for this at check out by an very abrupt lady who wasn’t willing to nicely explain the reason why. We left extremely disappointed and rather dishearten having travelled 3 hours to stay with you using our Christmas voucher we certainly would not recommend yourselves and feel our voucher was wasted. I feel you should know how we felt and a young couple wanting to enjoy just one night from home! I await your comments.

  I was given the Rural Escape as a birthday present and it was a lovely surprise. We went to Ivy House,Dolgellau, Gwynedd which is a charming guest house, lovely location and within easy reach of many beautiful places. The host and hostess were kindness itself and got up early to provide breakfast for us so that we could catch the steam train at Porthmadog. This gift was the perfect choice!

  I was given a voucher as a leaving present and we chose to go to Ettrickbridge as the area is beautiful and only a couple of hours away from home. The Inn was adequate, but very dated. The room was a real eighties throwback with badly fitted floral curtains and a very lumpy duvet and totally flat foam pillows. There was no proper shower in the bathroom, just a fitting on the tap. This didn't actually matter because we hadn't realised that checkout was at ten o'clock so I didn't have time for a shower anyway! The bar food was basic but well cooked and the waiting staff were lovely. The furniture in the bar and telly areas downstairs was also basic and not terribly comfortable. I would have been very disappointed if I had paid for this stay but as it was a present we didn't think it worth complaining.
