Champagne Afternoon Tea for Two at Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel

Description

This wonderful afternoon tea treat is the perfect way to celebrate a quintessential British past-time.

Afternoon tea has been a British institution since Anna Maria Russell - the seventh Duchess of Bedford - asked her footman to bring her a pot of tea with light refreshment one afternoon in 1840. The ritual caught on and afternoon tea became the corner stone of high society dining. These days taking tea as a light afternoon meal has become much more accessible, without losing a crumb of its wonderful charm.

The Palm Court at Sheraton in Park Lane, London, is Mayfair’s premium meeting place. Perfectly located in the heart of the city and offering a glimpse into the magic and history of the roaring 20’s with stunning Art Deco features setting the scene.

On arrival you will be greeted by a member of staff who will seat you in the beautiful Palm Court Restaurant. You will be served a glass of Mὂet & Chandon Champagne, a selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches, delicious scones with thick clotted cream and yummy seasonal preserves, a selection of fine French pastries and a choice of exquisite teas sourced from around the globe.

The friendly staff will cater to your every need, ensuring that this is an experience to remember and one that you will want to repeat again and again.

Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel, Piccadilly, London

Tzarina from Marketing, August 2022

What did you get up to?
My Mum and I went to the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel for our Champagne Afternoon Tea. The staff were very welcoming upon arrival, promptly seating us and soon after we were each poured a glass of refreshing Moet and Chandon Champagne. We were given the choice of a non-vegetarian or vegetarian Afternoon tea and asked to select a tea, which took some time to decide as there were over 20 different types! I went for the Wild Cherry flavour which was lovely.
We were served a Platinum Jubilee themed Afternoon Tea in this adorable cage of tiered plates, which had a selection of delicious sandwiches, scones & different mini cakes. We enjoyed every part of the Afternoon Tea and didn’t leave a crumb behind!
What did you enjoy the most?
Getting to share this experience and spend time with my Mum was very special. One of our experience highlights were the scones – they were still warm by the time we ate them and with the preserves & clotted cream, it was a very tasty combination. I also enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee theme of the Afternoon Tea because it added a unique feel to the experience. The restaurant was very sophisticated and provided a very pleasant atmosphere to enjoy our Afternoon Tea. The Hotel itself was very easy to get to from Kings Cross– approximately 15-20 minutes in total, allowing for underground travel & walking time.

Top Tip

1. Make sure you leave plenty of stomach room beforehand as we were so full afterwards!
2. If you have time, why not finish off your Afternoon Tea with a Grand Cocktail! We didn’t get to try them but they sound intriguing!
3. Buckingham Palace is an approximate 10-minute walk away from the hotel, so why not do a spot of sight-seeing!

We visited a hotel and spa in Dover to use our voucher and were pretty disappointed, here's why: - I knew the spa didn't have a swimming pool in advance which wasn't an issue. The sauna and steam room were also out of action due to COVID meaning it was just the relaxation room and jacuzzi available. The jacuzzi was good and the relaxation room by was pleasant but very small with only 6/7 beds in; there were more than 7 people there that day meaning there wasn't enough beds for everyone and as people left their stuff on one to reserve it while they used the jacuzzi/had refreshments/had treatments we were unable to spend much time in there at all. This isn't a complaint about it being a small spa, it's about the fact that more people were booked in than they could actually accommodate which I don't think they should have done. - The massages that we had were amazing and we can't fault the treatments at all. The staff were also friendly. - Due to COVID there wasn't space for us to have our afternoon tea in the bar/restaurant area because of social distancing requirements. Again, I'm fine with this and understand the need for these rules to be in place but the room we were served it in was called the 'salon' from memory and was a pretty dingy room in the spa area which I suspect was usually used as a waiting room when people arrived. It was fairly tired decor and furniture and had no external windows, it was pretty disappointing. We did ask if we could be moved to the restaurant or bar and the staff did check but there still wasn't space; they were apologetic about this and clearly felt embarrassed about having to serve us afternoon tea in this room. - The afternoon tea itself was average. The sandwiches were ok and the scones not too bad but the cakes weren't amazing. Also, the staff didn't tell us what was in any of the cakes or sandwiches like you would normally be told so if we'd have had any allergies we wouldn't have been aware of any potential risks in the food we were eating. Overall we agreed this was a really poor spa experience and we were probably there for less than 2 hours so it wasn't the relaxing spa day we were hoping for. Unfortunately we won't be returning here.

We received the voucher as a gift. Having no prior experience of the system we were worried by online reports of difficulties in using the vouchers without proof of purchase. However the voucher was accepted without any problem, and the tea itself was delightful in every way: the room itself is beautiful, the service exemplary and food outstanding (all the preserves are made on the premises and are exceptional). The service of the wrong tea was corrected and acknowledged by two extra glasses of Moët. We plan to go back.

We had a great night at the Jazz Cafe Reading. The paperwork said turn up at 18.00 but I think was meant to be 8pm so we had to sit around for a while and wait. We had a couple of drinks and around 7.30 was shown to our table. Great 2 course meal. Fantastic 10 piece jazz band, everyone dancing and having a good time. We really enjoyed it.

  • 5 stars for spa, I would book direct next time

    3/15/2020

Had this experience bought for myself and my mum as a Xmas present. I’m going to rate the day itself as a 5 because the venue at holiday in Reading was spotless and the staff were so friendly. The afternoon tea was lovely and they were only too happy to adapt it to our flavour choice of sandwiches and gave us extra cream for scones nothing was too much trouble we felt very spoilt. The only downside for us was no jacuzzi at this spa but it wasn’t advertised so that was my over site when booking venue but other than that a lovely day. Treatments were good and room at the poolside so very convenient. My main advice would be that booking direct with the venue offers better venue for money. For £90 we had spa access and sparking afternoon tea for two and it cost us a total of £140 for 2 treatments each however as it was a gift it didn’t really make much difference to us but if I were to book anything myself I would be looking for afternoonTea, with spa access and treatments included which were available from the venue starting at £65 per person. Also buying from activity superstore does limit your choice of spa, the nearest one to us was 40 miles away. So please bear this in mind when buying these activity days because refunds are not easy to get. Finally make sure you have your receipt from the original purchase. If you don’t have the code from the receipt to prove purchase you won’t be going anywhere! You need this to use on the activityStore website where you cash in your voucher, the voucher code is not enough on its own, be warned! Book your spa day with the spa and avoid any disappointment and overpaying is my advice.

We turned up early but were warmly greeted and seated. The service was very good and we were able to practice our Spanish with one of the waiters. The tea, sandwiches, scones and patisseries did not stop coming until we had eaten our fill. We spent about two hours at the hotel and were not rushed to leave and did so at our own pace although that could be different at busier times, we went on 21st December. The hotel is well located in central London and close to underground stations. This was a very good experience and well worth the money.

The spa is very basic, with a tiny outdoor jacuzzi an indoor Jacuzzi a steam room sauna and swimming pool. there were not enough loungers around the pool for the number of people on a spa day. however the Afternoon tea was really lovely. the restaurant is very light and airy with glass walls and ceiling and has a lovely view. the sandwiches were tasty and the cakes whilst ordinary in design tasted very nice.

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear you thought the spa was basic with not enough facilities and equipment. I can only apologise that there were not enough loungers for the amount of people enjoying a spa day. I am pleased to hear however, that you enjoyed the view from the venue and the tasty food you were served with the Afternoon Tea part of the experience. Thank you again for your feedback.
