Picnic Boat Cruise for Two

Description

Cruising on the Thames is truly magical. Travelling quietly you'll witness a wonderful natural display, the abundant birdlife, horses and cows all relaxing in the Oxfordshire countryside. The river itself is vibrant and busy with rowers, narrow boats and cruisers all adding to a rich tapestry of colour and activity.

During the cruise you have the chance to stretch your legs in the gorgeous countryside. Your journey includes a delectable gourmet picnic lunch, sourced from some of Oxford's finest caterers. Exact contents depend on the availability of the freshest produce, but you can be assured that this quintessentially British way to spend an afternoon or evening will deliver satisfaction.

On this trip you'll travel through the city past famous landmarks including Christchurch College and Meadows, the University boathouses and regatta course, the Head of the River and Folly Bridge. From the river you'll take in a side of Oxford's heritage rarely seen by visitors to the city. See well-loved allotments, gardens and majestic and ancient Port Meadow, some of Oxford's most beautiful and intriguing scenery. Port Meadow, a vast area of common land, has remained little changed since prehistoric times and supports plants and bird-life in abundance. At the top of Port Meadow is Godstow. Godstow was the ultimate destination of Alice Liddell and Lewis Carroll when they followed an identical route to this trip while composing 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. It is also the site of Trout Island, an inspiration for another of Oxfords literary icons, C S Lewis, and his stories of the land of Narnia. The trip also passes through Osney Lock (one of the deepest on the Thames).

Deluxe Afternoon Tea and Tastings at Sedlescombe Vineyard for Two

Description

Explore England’s premier organic vineyard and get a fascinating insight into the world of organic wine production with this Deluxe Afternoon Tea and Wine Tasting Tour for Two.

The award-winning Sedlescombe vineyard is the largest and oldest organic vineyard in the UK. This long established, family run business welcomes you to join them on a tour around their 22 acres of vines.

This is your chance to admire the work of one of the UK’s true-eco-pioneers. Roy Cook, is often heralded as the grandfather of organic grape vine cultivation, after planting his first vine back in 1979. And in 2010, Sedlescombe became the first vineyard to release "Biodynamic" English wine, an organic method of production that incorporates lunar rhythms into the grape growing process.

Start your experience with a self-guided stroll through three vineyards and beautiful woodland before heading to the winery, where your knowledgeable guide will show you how these delicious English wines are made. Moving on to the 'Bar-in-the-Barn', you'll be able to taste the whole range of fabulous home-grown organic and biodynamic wines, including whites, red and sparkling, and also a great range of liqueurs, you'll even get a complimentary bottle of red or white wine to take home.

You will then stop for lunch where you will enjoy a very special indulgent afternoon tea. Your tea will consist of smoked salmon, caviar, quails eggs and prawns followed by fresh strawberries and raspberries with clotted cream and chocolate sponge cake. This tasty treat will be served with a glass of pink fizz and a lovely cuppa too.

Outdoor Proms Concert for Two with a Bottle of Bubbly

Description

Enjoy an unforgettable evening of glorious entertainment with this Outdoor Proms experience for two, including a bottle of bubbly to share.

This is a thrilling open air concert, set in the grounds of some of the UK’s most celebrated stately homes.

The event begins with a thundering of hooves as the mounted cavalry demonstrate their battlefield skill-at-arms with lances, rifles and spectacular horsemanship.

The entertainment continues with an uplifting and inspiring musical celebration of soul-stirring classical favourites, performed by the New English Concert Orchestra.

Next, the English Field Artillery Company herald the arrival of Britain’s favourite warplane. Amidst a volley of gunfire from a vintage field gun, you hear the unmistakable sound of the Spitfire engine rumbling overhead, followed by a meticulously choreographed aerial display which takes place in the evening sky above.

Then it’s time for the New English Concert Orchestra to take to the stage with classical hits such as Beethoven’s Battle Symphony, with a full complement of nearly 200 cannons, plus musket fire and fireworks providing a unique and breath-taking musical performance.

The evening will close with a traditional flag-waving sing-along, culminating in a dazzling fireworks extravaganza.

As part of your experience you will enjoy a chilled bottle of Prosecco to toast the evening, complete with two long stem plastic glasses which will be ready for collection on arrival at the concert.

Whether you’re seeking the perfect gift for your other half or a special couple in your life, this could be the unique experience you have been looking for.

For safety reasons, please note barbecues, garden flares and pets are not permitted at the concert. Most people bring a picnic although public catering is available. There is no seating at these concerts so please bring along rugs or garden chairs. The use of recording equipment is prohibited and please allow sufficient time to park your car as no vehicles are allowed on the concert area. The car park opens at 2:30pm.
