The index is generated from analysis of the top 50 philanthropists in the Sunday Times Giving List from 2008 to 2018.

The 11 years of data was collated into total donations over the period: annual mean average wealth, annual mean average donations and a mean average of their Giving Index ratio that represents the percentage of their annual wealth that was donated to charity.

Which industries cultivate the most donors?

We created industry segments for the full data set of the top 50 philanthropists each year from 2008 to 2018. Financiers, hedge fund managers and investors was the leading industry sector for having the most philanthropists. Followed second by property and construction.

Men vs Women vs Couples

We segmented the list of the top 50 philanthropists from 2008 to 2018 into women, men and couples (excluding philanthropists listed as a family). We measured the mean average Giving Index for each segment to find who was the most generous with their wealth.

Which month gives birth to the most philanthropists?

We segmented the list of the top 50 philanthropists from 2008 to 2018 by which month they were born in. We also segmented the list by star sign to find which the most philanthropists were born under.
