For those who like their gin, this experience is a must. You and your guest will taste and compare a variety of artisan gins whilst learning about the dark history of this juniper flavoured delight.
Upon arrival you will be greeted by the Smart School of Cookery’s in-house gin experts who will give you a brief overview of what to expect from the session and then the fun begins.
Learn about the history of this quintessential spirit, from how the gin craze took London by storm in the 1700’s, where adults were consuming on average a whopping half a pint of gin a day, to discovering the best foods to pair up the different types of gin with.
Throughout the session you will taste an array of mouth-watering gins, such as the fruity red sloe gin and the sweet oak flavoured, barrel aged gin. If that isn’t enough to send your taste buds into overdrive there will be some tempting savoury canapes served to accompany your favourite tipple.

What did you get up to?
The gin expert was extremely knowledgeable, she answered any questions we had and it was really interesting to learn about the history of gin and how far it’s come from its darker days. We tried a range of gins and I found myself some new favourites, it was also nice to learn what foods work best with certain gins. We rounded off the experience with a cookery lesson from Pity. She was very entertaining and engaging, she got the class involved in making the Spanish Tortilla’s, made us all laugh and had some brilliant tips. Once the experience has taken place you receive an email with all the gins you have tried and where you can purchase them (very handy), as well as a recipe for the canapes.
What did you enjoy the most?
I really enjoyed finding out about different gins and discovering a new favourite – I know what to ask for when ordering a drink in a bar now!
Top Tip
The class is based in Canary Wharf so there are lots of bars and restaurants in the area so you can carry on drinking gin into the night or have a nice meal afterwards.
