Chiltern Valley Winery & Brewery (Henley on Thames)
Holly from National Accounts, September 2018
Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery is set deep in the Chiltern Hills and is surrounded by a beautiful green landscape, with many picturesque villages nearby. We arrived to ample parking and made our way up to the check in point, where we were greeted by the friendly tour manager, Steve. As we were early, we decided to take a seat in the courtyard and relax in the heat of the sun until the tour was ready to begin! We also took this opportunity to chat to our fellow tourists. The tour began with an introduction from Donald the owner who gave us a background history of Chiltern Valley Winery and Brewery, then it was on to the Brewery where we learnt all about the brewing process. We then visited the vineyard, followed by the grape press machinery and also had the chance to watch the bottle labelling process! It was then on to the eagerly anticipated wine tasting!! We sampled plenty of different wines and ales, learning how to smell and taste each drink properly (as opposed to just knocking them back as I would have done in my student days!!). Between drinks, there was plenty of cheese, crackers and water to help refresh the pallet before moving on to the next sample. After we had all had our fill, we were allowed to purchase our favourite wines, ales and liquors at a discounted price and relax once more in the courtyard area. Overall, I had a lovely day and would highly recommend this experience to any wine or ale drinker (or just to anyone who enjoys the beautiful countryside and a bit of a tour!).
Either decide on a designated driver, or book into the B&B, as the “samples” are not small!
