Gin Garden and Distillery Tour for Three

Description

Hamish, a wine merchant, began to pursue his lifelong passion for plants by gaining a Herbology Diploma. Alongside Liberty’s passion for all things vintage the overgrown lowlands became an award-winning herb nursery, local arts centre, shop and café.

The Secret Herb Garden has over 600 naturally grown and tendered varieties of herbs that have been used in the production of many wonderful natural products: candles, beer, wine, and herbal salts among them. As well as providing top Edinburgh restaurants with unique natural ingredients.

With over 30 year’s experience in the drinks trade and a passion for creating unique tipples from glorious natural ingredients, Hamish began experimenting. Beginning with Apothecary Rose, an ancient ingredient in tinctures and tonics, he discovered a natural reaction that can only be explained by the magic of nature: a natural colour change, the magical beginning of Secret Garden Gin.

Over time Hamish developed many more concoctions of fine gin and hand-grown herbs, then took to exploring a barn full of curious things. Among the odds and sods and the bits and bobs, Old Curiosity Distillery was founded in 2017.

Beginning with the hand-picking and drying of the garden’s flowers, through to distilling, bottling and labelling, everything happens on site and will be showcased during the gin garden and distillery tour. You and two guests will also have the chance to taste six different gins during your tour, ranging from the colour-changing Apothecary Rose to Lavender & Echinacea.

With over a thousand juniper bushes, complemented by 500 herbs and floral varieties such as scented lemon verbena, geraniums, irises and roses, the gin garden is the ultimate tribute to nature’s magic. Curated by the founder, renowned Scottish herbologist Hamish Martin, it encapsulates his boundless passion and knowledge.

Tour and Tasting for Two at Bottomley Distillers

Description

Bottomley Distillers is a family owned distillery with a heritage that dates back to the 1950's with the original Mr Stansfield Bottomley. Mr Bottomley was a small scale whisky producer, beginning in West Yorkshire before moving on to Lincolnshire in the early 1980's.

Alan Bottomley, his youngest son, was always fascinated by the production of spirit. In 2016, inspired by this inherited skill and the rise in the craft market, he decided to modernise those nearly lost techniques and Lincolnshire's oldest distillery was founded.

Launching in 2017, they began distilling in their garage and through business growth have now upscaled into a new distillery. This has enabled them to invest in a tasting room space and gin school. Alan has always wanted to honour his father’s skills and Stansfield, the 500ltr copper pot still (named after Alan's father) is now going to be there every step of the way!

Set in the quaint market town of Louth in the Lincolnshire Wolds, Bottomley Distillers now produce the award winning Pin Gin, along with white label projects. Most excitingly, casking has started for Mr Bottomleys' original recipe - the only Lincolnshire Single Malt.

Visit Bottomley Distillers with a friend or family member and enjoy a tour and tasting experience. The tour will include seeing Rose, the 100ltr gin production still, along with the rest of the distillery floor. There will be samples to taste of all of Bottomley Distillers' products and G+T’s to start and end the experience! All guests are welcome to stay in the bar afterwards for more drinks!

Tour and Tasting for Two at Cygnet Gin Distillery

Description

To know Cygnet Gin is to know Swansea, and to know Swansea is to know its history, its heartache, and its beating heart – the people.

By the eighteenth century Swansea was a major metallurgy hub, exporting tin, iron, and copper in vast quantities. The town had seen rises and falls, from the Black Death in the thirteen hundreds, which wiped out half the population, to the blitzes during World War II the town centre was demolished.

All of their hard-won history was shaken, but in no way wiped away as Swansea residents rose again. They rose through wars before that, invasions, changes in monarchies, revolutions, revolts, and Cholera outbreaks in 1832 and 1849.They stood stoic against the storms of time like the swan. They knew that whatever spirit they distilled, that it would have to be as intrinsic to Swansea as the bird on which it would be moulded. After some careful research, it became apparent that fate had only one thing in mind. Gin.

Cygnet Gin embodies every milestone in Swansea’s rich and diverse history. Beginning with the Swan itself, the eight hundred year old mascot. A powerful and proud bird. They chose the Cygnet as a symbol to remind themselves that they are always reinventing, always making the new from the old. All Cygnet gin is carefully crafted by their very own master distiller from a multitude of ingredients, modeled on the recipe of by Swansea gin pioneers William and Peter.

With a tour around Cygnet Gin Distillery, you’ll discover how they create their very own spirits in traditional handmade copper still pots, using only the finest Welsh water that has been expertly blended with an array of herbs and spices, selected and flown in from the farthest reaches of the Earth.

On arrival, you and your guest will be greeted by one of their friendly staff members who will then introduce you to their in-house distiller, your expert guide for the day. You’ll be shown around the distillery where you’ll learn about Cygnet Gin’s distillation process, bottling stations, its journey from the shelf to pallets and much more.

To finish off this experience, you and your guest will then take part in a short tasting session in the juniper restaurant, where you will sample some of their delicious gin, learn about the different notes, botanicals and flavours that are included in the gin-making process.

Each guest will also receive a miniature and branded Cygnet glass to take away as keepsake from your time at the distillery.
