Come aboard a beautiful Edwardian sailing barge, moored on Maldon’s picturesque Hythe Quay for a memorable tearoom experience.

These barges boast their distinctive red ochre sails, evoke an era long since past. Once the East Coasts traditional cargo vessel at the turn of the century the Thames Sailing Barge fleet numbered over 2,000, today only a handful of traditional Barges survive.

Included within this experience is an afternoon tea for two made with fresh ingredients supplied from Maldon high street including Buntings Butchers, Greens and Crusty Loaf. Their delicious cakes, scones and sandwiches are all cooked on board daily in the galley.

Your afternoon tea will include an individual pot of tea or cafetiere of coffee, a selection of fresh sandwiches, delicious scones with cream and jam and a choice of two cakes served on a China stand. You will also receive a 20cl bottle of Prosecco each to enjoy.

Please note that the Barge is stationary at all times.

Great place for afternoon tea

We were given a voucher for afternoon tea and chose to go on a maldon barge in Maldon Quay. We were greeted by very friendly staff and the most wonderful array of food to eat. Really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this to all.

Amazing experience

I was given this tea as a present from my son and daughter in law in December so it was doubly wonderful to claim the experience in June of this year. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience as we were able to sail up the estuary on a beautifully sunny day

Brilliant Barge

Tea was at a venue with a difference: what was once the hold of a genuine, old, Thames sailing barge, warm and snug on a freezing January day. The glasses of prosecco started things off with a sparkle and the cake stand which followed was groaning with goodies: various sandwiches, different types of cakes, scones, cream and jam! Tea and coffee finished off our feast which, needless to say we didn't manage to consume in its entirety and a 'doggie bag' was needed!

Lovely way to spend the afternoon.

This was a gift from my family for my husbands birthday. The value of the gift far exceeded the value of the afternoon tea on the barge - when you saw the prices of a tea on a normal afternoon it would have cost a lot less than the value of the gift voucher. In that respect i felt that my family didn't get good value for money. Having said that, we really enjoyed the experience. The barge is in a fantastic setting, the staff were lovely and friendly, the food was excellent (and far too much - we had to have a doggie bag for what we couldn't finish) and we dpent a nice afternoon exploring the area. If you want luxury, forget it but if you want a nice relaxed way to enjoy an afternoon tea , give this a try.

Good but cheaper to just turn up !

Did enjoy the afternoon tea on the ancient barge but... barge was docked and open to the public as a cafe and the food/drinks were about half the price to just turn up. May do again but not on a voucher...

Afternoon tea

I bought this as a Wedding gift for my husband to be....we were fairly happy with it. The barge was full of character and history. Tea was huge and we had to take some home to eat later.
