Hands-on Cookery Class

Description

Whilst some people find cooking enjoyable and therapeutic, there are also those who lack the confidence to throw themselves into preparing a meal without plenty of preparation. This half day cookery lesson is a great chance to learn everything about the essential skills needed to prepare great food, but also to learn everything you could hope to know so that you feel at ease when it comes to tackling a new recipe. A lesson with a professional chef is the perfect opportunity to ask any questions that you might have about the secrets of preparing fool-proof dishes, how to ensure that you aren’t too heavy handed with your seasoning and hints and tips on making fantastic food to impress your family and friends.

After a warm welcome on arrival you will meet your expert cookery teacher who will talk you through the day's programme and what you will be cooking during your lesson. Afternoon Tea on a Thames Sailing Barge for Two

Description

Come aboard a beautiful Edwardian sailing barge, moored on Maldon’s picturesque Hythe Quay for a memorable tearoom experience.

These barges boast their distinctive red ochre sails, evoke an era long since past. Once the East Coasts traditional cargo vessel at the turn of the century the Thames Sailing Barge fleet numbered over 2,000, today only a handful of traditional Barges survive.

Included within this experience is an afternoon tea for two made with fresh ingredients supplied from Maldon high street including Buntings Butchers, Greens and Crusty Loaf. Their delicious cakes, scones and sandwiches are all cooked on board daily in the galley.

Their shop only sells carefully selected products from small independent producers who share their values of taste and provenance. Their elegant Tasting Room is the perfect place to wind down and relax whilst tasting your cheeses with accompanying wines.

Day with a Beer Brewer for Two

Enjoy a fun and informative behind-the-scenes tour of a working brewery.This hands-on experience is ideal for any fan of real ale, providing a great introduction to the subtle art of brewing beer.

The basic principles of brewing beer have remained unchanged for centuries and during this tour you will see all parts of the process including: fermenting, where the sugar is broken down into alcohol; conditioning, which gives beer a smoother taste; and filtering which stabilises the flavour and gives beer its polished shine and brilliance.

This brewery is a 6 Barrel Micro Brewery located in Darley Abbey Mills, part of the Derwent Valley Mill World Heritage Site, approximately 1 mile from Derby City Centre.

Under the guidance of a brewing team, you will carry out the various processes such as how to mash in, boil, ferment and condition ale whilst picking up brewing tips and advice. To complete this experience you will taste some of the brewery's beers for yourself.

Many people don't realise that England produces its very own wine! Well, this is an ideal opportunity to find out about the English wine industry by enjoying a tour of one of England's finest vineyards, followed by a tasting session.

During the tour, your experienced guide will explain the history of English wine, how grapes are grown on a commercial scale, the methods used at the vineyard, and the reasons for the choice of grapes grown. You will also learn about the wine production processes for different types of wine. To complete the experience, you will sample a selection of the wines made at the vineyard.

Vineyard Tour with Lunch at Carr Taylor Wines for Two

Many do not realise England produces its very own wine! Well, this is an ideal opportunity to find out about the English wine industry by enjoying a tour of one of England's finest vineyards followed by a tasting session and lunch.

This half day of wild food foraging is for folks curious about Britain's wild foods, but who have little or no experience and wish to know more. This is experience is very much the first foot on the ladder in exploring the edible wild.

Marcus Harrison, who runs the foraging courses, is a UK authority and specialist on wild foods, and from time to time gives talks on the subject at the Natural History Museum.
