Step back in time and enjoy a thrilling day out in Sussex aboard a lovingly preserved steam train, complete with a leisurely stroll through beautiful royal botanical gardens with this Steam Train Journey and Visit to Wakehurst Place for Two experience.
The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for 11 miles along the border between East and West Sussex in England. You will have the pleasure of enjoying some of the UK’s finest scenery from the comfort of a beautifully maintained steam train carriage.
The railway is managed and run largely by passionate volunteers who have preserved a large number of steam locomotives since the cessation of the steam service on British mainline railways since 1968, and today it boasts the second largest collection of steam locomotives in the UK - second only to the National Railway Museum.
The Society also has a vast and impressive collection of almost 150 carriages and wagons, most of them pre-dating 1939. And with various stations along this pleasant route which have been restored to show different periods of the railway's life, this is an experience that railway lovers will cherish.
In addition to this fantastic day out, you will visit Wakehurst Place, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is often referred to as "Kew in the country". Wakehurst Place is a National Trust Property and is managed by the Royal Botanical Gardens. Highlights of the extensive and lavish gardens include colourful herbaceous borders, a series of water gardens, Asian Heath garden and a fine collection of trees and many other rare plants.
Please note you can enjoy this experience in any order, but you will need to drive between the two sites, either starting at Wakehurst and moving to the Bluebell Railway or setting off with steam trains before wandering through the Place’s botanic gardens. Wakehurst Place is approximately 20 minutes’ drive from Bluebell Railway (Sheffield Park) and 15 minutes from East Grinstead.

We were given the "Steam & Garden" voucher as my husband loves Trains and I'm the garden lover and indeed we both enjoyed our day out. The entry vouchers were accepted without fuss at both Sheffield Park station and Wakehurst. The drive between venues was 20 mins as advertised.. There was so much to do & see at each venue that we could have spent a whole day at each. Annoyingly we had to choose the same date for both and felt too rushed and unable to really relax.. Our solution was to buy railway platform tickets (£3 each) and look round the museum, shop and static displays another day.

Bought this is a gift for my partner. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves but were not able to make the best of the walks at Wakehurst due to the awful weather. We did try but got soaked. Otherwise a brilliant day.

Yes I recommend this product.
I bought this trip as a Christmas present for my parents and four of us used the vouchers at the end of June 2017. It was a lovely trip and everyone both at the Bluebell Railway and Wakehurst place were really nice. Two different places to visit on one trip but highly recommended whether you are a steam train enthusiast or not - its a really good place to go.

I bought this voucher and checked on the web site for the train that dogs are allowed, which they are allows on the train and bought a ticket for the dog, it was only £2. However, when you get to Wakehurst place, you will discover that dogs are not allowed in, so an expensive trip to talk a god around a random field and back home again.
