Description

This is a fascinating introduction to an ancient and intriguing pursuit. See for yourself an extraordinary relationship between man and bird of prey. Falconry was originally introduced as a means of obtaining 'food for the table'. In Medieval Britain birds of prey were often present at grand occasions such as pageants, weddings and jousting tournaments. Seeing these magnificent birds up close is still a very special experience and one which you won't forget.

As well as being a fun and entertaining day, this one day course is designed to give the opportunity for someone interested in falconry to decide to pursue the sport further. During the day you will be made aware of the practical implications of owning a hawk and given the opportunity to handle and fly the Harris Hawk.

A typical day runs as follows:

10.00 Arrival, coffee and introduction to instructors and hawks, introduction to Falconry
10.30 The falconers knot
11.00 Take a look at falconry equipment and its use
11.30 Short talk on basic handling and training of hawks
12.30 Lunch (included)
13.30 Out to the surrounding countryside to fly the hawks
16.30 Return to centre, questions and tea

Time and weather permitting, you may also be able to see a falcon, vulture and eagle being flown. This experience also includes one free spectator pass worth £30 which includes lunch and refreshments are included.
