Afternoon tea has been a British institution since Anna Maria Russell, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, asked her footman to bring her a pot of tea and light refreshment one afternoon in 1840. The ritual caught on and afternoon tea became the corner stone of high society dining. These days taking tea as a light afternoon meal has become much more accessible, but has not lost a crumb of its charm. Luxury country hotels and traditional tea rooms will provide welcoming surroundings for this decadent treat which really is a special experience to take your time over.
On arrival you will be greeted by staff who will seat you. Your afternoon tea may vary slightly depending on which location you choose, and in each case you will be treated to a selection of freshly made sandwiches, delicious scones with cream and jam, and, at most locations, either fine pastries or cakes of the day to accompany your tea.

When can you go?
This experience is available Monday to Sunday in most locations, throughout the year, dependent on availability.
How long does this activity last?
Generally you will spend an hour at the venue, but there is no set time.
You need to know
Under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. Some locations are for 18 or 21 years and above.

an amazing afternoon,at clumber park hotel on 6/11/2011 worth every penny,superb waiting staff,hospitality appriciated.greatly recommended to family and friends, presentation of sandwiches and cakes was just as good as eating them,,brilliant afternoon all round,
The perfect day, the perfect present

I bought this as a present for my mother who has just returned from the perfect afternoon at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel.
The place was beautiful and the service impeccable. They were greeted with a pot of tea. This was followed by various finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, cakes and all washed down with another pot of tea.
She could not talk more highly of the afternoon and the place and highly recommends it. Thank you to all those involved.

This afternoon we had a fabulous afternoon tea at Yew Lodge, Kegworth. The food was all delicious and freshly made. Plenty of finger sandwiches, an excellent range of cakes and scones with jam and cream served by friendly, attentive staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience - a great birthday present.

Yesterday we had a lovely tea for two at Jaspers in Cardiff. Although we arrived an hour earlier than expected we were warmly welcomed and soon shown to our table. We were served by the very friendly staff with a choice of beverages(we chose a pot of tea) and a delightful tea of delicious sandwiches, scones (with cream & jam) and a choice of cakes. We felt we had to comment as we had an excellent 'experience' and would definitely recommend it.
